A Wino’s Guide to Curing a Hangover

 It may have been a night of self-loathing that could only be cured by some Pinot Noir, or it may have been a casual evening among friends that suddenly escalated after they plopped the cork on the sparkling wine, or it may have been that office party where you decided to empty one glass after another just to cope with the awkwardness. We all know that feeling of instant regret the morning after and as we get older the tolerance that we built up so ferociously during our college years is beginning to dwindle. But, regardless of how you got yourself into the hell that is a bad hangover, we have collected some tips for you on how to get back on your feet in no time so you can continue being a valued member of society. 
你绝对会遇上这样的时刻:朋友聚会时兴奋的喝掉不断被打开的起泡酒,聚餐时让人停不下口的黑皮诺,或者商务宴会上和客户或上司一杯接一杯下肚的烈酒。我们都知道当天的愉快放纵之后,紧随而来的就是第二天令人遗憾的宿醉。为了让您摆脱让人崩溃的宿醉地狱,我们四处搜集了一些有效的预防或治愈宿醉的方法,绝对能让您缓解不适,精神抖擞的重回最佳状态。

1. Preventive measures are better than damage control
酒前预防比酒后调节更重要
It is always easier to prepare yourself for an evening of drinking than to fix your mistakes of the night the morning after. So do yourself a favor and eat a lot before you go out. Eat greasy foods as the grease helps your body to process the alcohol. Some people, especially from Europe’s Mediterranean, swear on drinking a tablespoon of olive oil before drinking alcohol. The oil will also protect your stomach from directly absorbing the alcohol giving you more drinking stamina. If you’re watching your line and don’t want to consume trans-fats you can also go for fish. It also helps to take vitamins. Alcohol destroys important vitamins B and it will take your body a longer time to recover without them. You may resort to some nutritional supplements containing vitamins B complex, B6 or B12.
喝酒之前的预防工作绝对比酒后弥补来的好。为了自己的身体,在出发喝酒之前先吃点东西吧。尤其是可以吃一些油炸或油腻的食物,因为它们所含的油脂有助于酒精的分解,在欧洲地中海部分地区,大家喝酒之前会先喝下一勺子橄榄油。石油也可以保护你的胃,让你增加你对酒精的耐力。如果不想摄入那些反式脂肪的食物,也可以吃鱼。这样可以提高你的维生素。酒精会破坏掉你体内的维生素B,而且依靠人体自身需要很久才能恢复。所以可以直接服用维生素B6 ,B12或者复合维生素B的营养剂。
2. Don’t mix!    千万别喝混酒!
Different kinds of drinks contain a variety of additives and taste enhancers that, in combination, can cause some massive headaches. So it goes without saying, stay away from drinking too many cocktails.
不同种类的酒精饮料中所含的成分和物质都有所不同,如果相结合,可能产生的化学作用就是不可承受之头痛。不用说,鸡尾酒可不能喝太多。


3. Stay away from brown liquors  远离布朗酒
This one really hurts me to write, as besides wine, I am also a Whisky guy but as it turns out, these liquors contain so called congeners, which are a byproduct of fermentation and distillation of alcohol. They can intensify your hangover significantly.
除了葡萄酒之外,正真伤害我的绝对是布朗酒。我也可以算是个威士忌爱好者了。但是事实证明,这些经过蒸馏发酵等工艺制作出的酒精副作用极强,有大大增强宿醉头痛的功效。
4. Stay hydrated… 保持身体的水分
Is what your physician would say. Drink lots of water, is what he means by that. This is one of the most important parts as symptoms like dizziness and headaches are usually a result of dehydration. So dri nking a glass of water before you go out and, additionally, drink one glass of water for each alcoholic beverage consumed during the course of the night (or day, I’m not judging) and your body will thank you for it.
医生最常叮嘱,说的最多的话,绝对是“多喝水。” 酒醉会产生头晕,头痛等症状最重要的一个原因通常就是体内缺水导致的。所以出门喝酒之前先喝一杯水吧,你的身体会感激你的。因为喝酒是个让你体内迅速流失水分的事情。
5. Avoid diet beverages 避免减肥饮料
As some of you might be watching their line or simply care about what they put in their body (in which case you have no business drinking diet drinks or sugary beverages anyway) you might resort to diet soda, as they do not contain any sugar or calories. What you might not know is that, when drinking alcohol, sugar and calories are your friends! 有些人可能会因为注重身材,要保持苗条的体型而特别注意摄入的食物。(他们可能只喝健怡可乐或者苏打水等无糖无卡路里的食物。)你要知道,当你喝酒的时候,糖和卡路里绝对是你身体的好朋友!
6. Watch out for sparkling wines 要小心起泡酒
I wouldn’t consider myself a lightweight drinker but when it comes to sparkling wine I am about as resilient as a Girl Scout recruit. The reason for that is that the bubbles actually carry the wine directly up into your head….ok that is not true. But, as a matter of fact, there is no real scientific explanation yet as to why fizzy drinks get you drunk faster. In 2001 an experiment was conducted in England where one group of subjects were given flat champagne and the other group was given fizzy champagne. After 20 minutes the fizzy group had higher blood alcohol levels than the flat champagne group. Sometime later the same experiment was conducted with the same people, however, the champagnes were switched and again, the fizzy group was drunker than the non-fizzy group. The weird part is, a similar experiment was conducted with vodka and soda and the results were completely different. So it still remains a mystery why champagne makes me giggly drunk but, for now, all you have to remember is to take it easy with the sparkling wine unless you want to cause a scene at your buddy’s wedding reception or tell your boss what you really think about him at the next office party.
我并不认为我是一个轻量级的酒鬼,但是一提到起泡酒,我就如同一个小小女童子军一样。起泡酒中的气泡会将酒精直接升到你的脑袋里。好吧,这只是个玩笑,但是事实上,含气泡的酒饮料能够加速人的酒醉的确是有科学依据的。在2001年英国进行过一次实验,两组人分别给到无气泡的平静香槟和含碳酸气泡的香槟。20分钟后,碳酸香槟组成员的血液中酒精含量明显高于平静香槟组。随后面对同样的实验对象,交换了所喝的酒,得出的结论依旧是气泡酒组的酒醉程度高于非气泡组。然而奇怪的是纯伏特加酒和加苏打水的一组实验结果完全相反。所以到现在起泡酒为什么容易让人喝醉仍然是个谜。不过不可否认起泡酒的确是一种能够让人放松愉悦的酒饮,尤其是在你好友的婚宴派对或在公司派对上想对你老板说写心里话的时候。


7. The morning after…  早晨起床之后
No matter how many gallons of water you drank before you went to bed, drink another glass after getting up in the morning. Eat a good breakfast. Some bacon, eggs, fried potatoes along with some yoghurt that I like to spice up with some fruits is my magic remedy. Although, my best friend topped that once by making me a banana smoothie with spinach after a night of heavy drinking and while I wouldn’t recommend it for its taste I do have to admit that it worked like a charm. I woke up feeling ready to go for a run and knock over some trees. If nothing helps and you still suffer from a headache you might want to try having another drink in the morning. In Germany, we call this the counter beer and it serves as a tool to let your body slowly recover from the night. However, this method simply takes care of your symptoms temporarily and merely delays the hangover. So be aware!
无论你睡前喝了多少加仑的水,第二天起床前一定要再喝一杯水。吃一些鸡蛋,熏肉,油炸土豆,再配上一些混合水果的酸奶优格,这就是我宿醉后的特效良方。当然如果经过一整夜的宿醉之后,一杯香蕉菠菜奶昔是最好的选择。虽然它的味道让人忍不住遗憾,但是效果绝对像魔法一样神奇。如果起床后仍然觉得像跑步的时候撞到了树,头痛不止的话,第二天需要再喝一杯。在德国,我们称它为“解醉啤酒”,它是能够加速你身体恢复的特效工具。但是这种方法治标不治本,只能够延缓你的宿醉。这个要特别注意!

 8.Control yourself 控制你自己
After seven paragraphs of explaining how to drink like an expert it is my duty to advise you to exercise restraint and control yourself like a civilized human being. No one likes the guy or girl making a scene after some uncomfortable political discussions at a party and no one likes having to take care of you all night, not even your best friends. While drinking a glass of red wine to relax after work or having some sparkling wine to break the ice among guests at a dinner party is all fun and good. But remember that alcohol is still a drug and should not be abused. Also, coming from a wine company, I have to say that it doesn’t sit right with me when so many people put so much effort into making an outstanding wine and then you come along and gobble it down. In that sense: Stay safe!

前7个都是告诉你们如何针对宿醉采取的措施手段。而这里接下来我要说最重要的一点,就是控制住自己,要像个文明人一样有自制力。即使是你最好的朋友,也没人喜欢去照顾一个不顾场合大吵大闹,在派对聚会时胡言乱语的人。喝一杯红酒放松享受,或者在和客户聚餐时来一些起泡酒破冰消除尴尬冷场,是一件美好奇妙的事情。但是如果喝多喝醉了,就得不偿失了。作为一个在葡萄酒行业工作的人,非常不希望看到一瓶经过许多人精心酿造推出的葡萄酒被醉鬼狼吞虎咽的糟蹋。所以时刻记住:保持理智和自控力!
